The annual Jeanne Block Scholarship of the EEWN, for $1000, will be awarded in August. Jeanne Block was one of the founders of EEWN and its 1982 Woman of the Year. To honor her memory, a $1000 scholarship has been set up to recognize the needs of adult women who wish to return to school to further their education which will provide a benefit to women in Eastern Suffolk.

Prospective applicants must submit the following criteria in their application letter: they must be a resident who works or lives on the East End, demonstrate their financial need, and communicate clearly the focused goal of the completed education. It must state how this education will serve East End women, and include their academic record. Applicants may be those returning to college, school or a desire to receive training in order to make a career change.

The scholarship is competitive and only one person will be selected to be the 2006 scholarship recipient. The award will be announced in late August.
