SOME OF YOU ARE GOING TO HATE ME FOR THIS

by Jerry Della Femina

April 30, 2014

From time to time I receive emails that I like to share with the readers of this column. This first one, which is called “A Conundrum,” is so so true.

The definition of “conundrum” is something that is puzzling or confusing.

Here are six conundrums of socialism in the United States of America:

1. America is capitalist and greedy – yet half of the population is subsidized.

2. Half of the population is subsidized – yet they think they are victims.

3. They think they are victims – yet their representatives run the government.

4. Their representatives run the government – yet the poor keep getting poorer.

5. The poor keep getting poorer – yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.

6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about – yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

That pretty much sums up the USA and what the liberal leaders want the 47 percent who pay no taxes to believe.

HATE ME YET?

This is why you’re wrong.

This is not an indictment of the 47 percent of the people who pay no taxes. It is an indictment of those people whose socialist ideas keep the 47 percent down.

It’s about a President who would rather give food stamps and extend unemployment benefits than give people jobs where they would be happy to earn money and pay their “fair share” of taxes.

Want an example? How about 20,000 examples? That is the number of people who are out of work who could have been put to work if Barack Obama approved the Keystone pipeline. Who’s for the pipeline? The public. According to Pew Research, currently 61 percent of Americans favor building the pipeline, while 27 percent are opposed.

About half of Democrats favor building the pipeline, while 38 percent are opposed.

And here’s the kicker: Opposition to building the pipeline is most widespread among Democrats, liberals and those with high family incomes.

There is the most support for the pipeline among Democrats with family incomes of less than $50,000.

It’s been five years and President Obama is still kicking the Keystone pipeline can down the road.

He should either have the balls to say he’s against it and take the political fallout, or approve it and put a lot of good honest people who are among the 47 percent who are currently not paying taxes to work.

Which brings me to a version of David Letterman’s Top 10 that someone sent me, which I cut down to a Top 6 because I didn’t agree with four of them. This is your last chance to hate me today.

Number 6: Only in America . . . could liberal politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000-a-plate campaign fund-raising event.

Number 5: Only in America . . . could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when we have a black President, a black Attorney General and roughly 20 percent of the federal work force is black.

Number 4: Only in America . . . could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner (the former head of the Treasury Department) and Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and Means Committee), BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.

Number 3: Only in America . . . can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.

Number 2: Only in America . . . could you need to present a driver’s license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

And Number 1: Only in America . . . could the rich people – who pay 86 percent of all income taxes – be accused of not paying their “fair share” by people who don’t pay any income taxes at all.
