Holiday Giving Programs

As we enter into the holiday season, The Retreat has announced the agency’s annual Holiday Giving Programs. In the true spirit of the season, The Retreat asks supporters to join together in brightening the holiday experience of courageous families affected by domestic violence.

During the holiday season, an increasing amount of families seek out The Retreat’s services. Many women and children find that during the holidays, domestic violence increases due to money problems, and increasing amounts of alcohol and drug use.

The most peaceful time of year, sadly, can be the hardest. In an effort to infuse light into some of the dark realities these families have to face, The Retreat is looking for help in providing survivor families with a joyful holiday experience during Thanksgiving and the December holidays.

Supporters may contribute to The Retreat’s Thanksgiving Gift Card Drive. The agency asks for gift cards to local food stores so that clients can shop on their own and provide a fruitful Thanksgiving experience for their families. Please send gift cards to The Retreat at 13 Goodfriend Drive, East Hampton, New York 11937 by November 12.

Supporters can also consider offering support to The Retreat’s annual Adopt-A-Family Program by donating holiday presents or gift cards for a family in need. Call The Retreat’s Holiday Help Line at 631-329-4398 and ask for Christiana or Lisa, to learn more about becoming involved in brightening the holiday season for survivors of domestic violence.

Great Hamptons Road Rally

Jim Shelly and Georgica Services Ltd. present “The Great Hamptons Road Rally” on Saturday at noon.  The rally is dedicated to the memory of their dear friend and fellow rally enthusiast Jon Auerbach. The Auerbach family is hosting the event.

The rally will start and end at The Hayground School in Bridgehampton. The course is 120 miles and will be completed in 4.5 hours.

The rally entry fee is $125 per car. Proceeds will be donated to LTV, the East Hampton public access TV station. Visit www.georgicaservices.com/index.php/road-rally.

Girls Night Out

On November 8 from 7 to 10 PM join Gurney’s for its fifth annual pink event “Girls Night Out.” The evening includes wine, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and spa pampering to benefit the Coalition For Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital. For tickets call 631-668-1742.

Seagrass Celebration

South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo) presents Save Our Seagrass Celebration and Fundraiser, cosponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County on November 9 from 5 to 8 PM.

Seagrass, which provides a nursery and habitat for numerous marine animals, has declined drastically in recent years, reducing the amount of fish and shellfish in our waters. Fortunately, work is being done to address this loss, and you can help. This Seagrass Celebration will raise funds to enable SoFo to hold more restoration workshops through CCE’s Marine Meadows Program, an innovative hands-on program that helps to restore seagrass beds.

The celebration will feature a delicious raw bar of locally harvested shellfish, freshly prepared Peconic Bay scallops, and local beer and wine. Entertainment will be provided by the Moto-Wrays, a talented instrumental trio specializing in surf rock and jazz.

Individual tickets are available at $75 per person. To purchase tickets, or for more information contact Kim Barbour of Cornell Cooperative Extension at  kp237@cornell.edu or 631-921-0302.
