The Retreat

The Retreat, eastern Long Island’s only domestic violence shelter and full service domestic violence services agency, announces its Holiday Giving Program, with its annual Adopt-A-Family Program. Give holiday presents or gift cards to a family in need. Call The Retreat’s Holiday Help Line at 631-329-4398 and ask for Stacey H or Cristina H to get involved.

Toy Drive

A toy drive for victims of Hurricane Sandy in Island Park will be held at Indian Wells Tavern in Amagansett tomorrow. Bring new unwrapped toys to the restaurant or mail to “Island Park New Toy Drive,” c/o Mary Anne Lamond, 96 Longview Road, Wading River, New York, 11792 by tomorrow.

ARF Food Drive

The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) will begin its annual holiday food drive for the animals. Animals in need include the resident animals at ARF, families with pets served by the Southampton Food Pantry and displaced animals in the Rockaways due to Hurricane Sandy.

Bring unopened bags of dry dog and cat kibble and canned dog and cat food to the ARF Adoption Center at 90 Daniels Hole Road in Wainscott. All brands are acceptable. The Adoption Center is open every day except Christmas. Food donations will be accepted until December 31.

Southampton Animal Shelter

Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation presents ”Pets for Adoption.” Adoption fees are being waived for dogs six years old and over and all cats and kittens until December 31. Citizens 4 Humanity

Chef Marco Barrila of Insatiable EATS Catering teams up with Citizens 4 Humanity to coordinate efforts with local chefs and volunteers in cooking, preparing, packaging complete holiday meals that are delivered to single mom families and other families who are in crisis or great financial difficulties. Lists of families are provided by local community groups and schools. Recognized for the efforts, early this year, Insatiable EATS was contacted by the Red Cross and then designated as one of only two 1st Response Units for the Red Cross/ Long Island. 

Donations from individuals directly determine how many families can be helped. To feed a family, the cost is $10 per person or $50 to $75 per family, depending on the size.
