Dorothy King Ammon, 89

Montauk resident Dorothy King Ammon died on December 16 in Southampton Hospital.

Mrs. Ammon was born on January 1,1917 in Amagansett to Abner Morton King and Marietta Abrams King. She attended Amagansett Grade School and graduated from East Hampton High School in 1934.

Mrs. Ammon married Elisha E. Ammon Jr. on June 16, 1935; she was predeceased by her husband, who died in April, 1986.

During their marriage, the couple moved to Montauk and lived in Old Fishing Village on Fort Pond Bay until 1943, when they moved again to Delrey Road, where Mrs. Ammon lived until her death.

She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Montauk Fire Department, a deacon, and a member of the Women’s Guild of the Montauk Community Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Lynn Ammon of Montauk; her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Edward Schaefer of East Hampton; her granddaughter, Jini Zlatniski, of Greensboro, North Carolina; her sisters, Caroline Griffiths of East Hampton and Sarah Wethy of Wilmington, North Carolina, and her brother, Harold King of Bridgehampton. Mrs. Ammon was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

Interment took place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Amagansett. Donations can be made to the Montauk Community Church, the Montauk Fire Department Ambulance Squad or the East End Hospice.
