Jerome L. Swann, Sr.

Died: Saturday, November 18, 2006
Age: 63
Jerome L. Swann, Sr. (Jerry) entered heaven’s kingdom November 18.

“Jerry” was born on December 7, 1943 to the late Frank and Mary Swann in Greenport, NY.

He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a member of the Clinton Memorial AME Zion Church.

On June 5, 1965, he was united in holy matrimony to Rose. Their union brought forth three beautiful and loving children.

At 15 years of age, Jerry began working at Eastern Long Island Hospital. He left to serve in the United States Army for two years. After being honorably discharged, he returned to work at ELIH. His service there extended over 30 years. He received numerous awards in recognition of his outstanding work and was promoted to supervisor of environmental services as a result.

Additionally, Jerry established his own business, Jerry’s Cleaning Service, and was a lifetime member of Burton Potter Post 185.

He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Delores Shelby and Josie Moore, and one brother, Russell Swann.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memory his three children, Jerome (Bodie) Swann Jr. of Chesterfield, VA, Tonia Marie Franklin of Riverhead, NY, and Faith Bullock of Chesterfield, VA; two son-in-laws, Andre Franklin of Southampton and Theodore Bullock Sr. of Chesterfield, VA; two brothers, Frank Swann of Maryland and George Swann of Greenport; three sisters, Francis Mims, Marion Latney and Florence Smith, all of Greenport; two sister-in-laws, Bessie of Maryland and Valrose Swann of Greenport; two brother-in-laws, Douglas Sr. and Russell Sr. of Greenport; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, Kaylah; one aunt, Josephine Watkins-Johnson; a very special friend, Nancy Santiago; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friendly and open; unpretentious, but upwardly mobile; soft-spoken, but firm; distinguished, but easygoing; serious, but well-liked. Our dear father, brother, friend will be missed dearly. We love him, but God loved him best.

The family received friends last Tuesday at the Clinton Memorial AME Zion Church in Greenport, where Homegoing services were held last Wednesday by Reverend Linda Thornhill.

Interment, with military honors, was at the Calverton National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home.
