Eileen Farrell Karb

Died: Friday, November 03, 2006
Age: 83
Eileen Farrell Karb of Greenport died at The Shores at Peconic Landing on November 3.

Mrs. Karb was born in Great Neck, New York on September 19, 1923 to William Bartholomew and Lucy Agnes Farrell. She attended Great Neck High School and Kathryn Gibbs School and for five years was a secretary with the New York Institute of Technology.

On April 19, 1947, she married Christopher Winfield Karb, Jr. at St. Aloysium Roman Catholic Church in Great Neck. Together they made their home in New Hyde Park for 13 years and Garden City for 25 years. They moved to the North Fork and spent 17 years in Cutchogue and the past three years at Peconic Landing in Greenport.

Through the years, Mrs. Karb had been a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Garden City and Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church in New Hyde Park. Locally she was active in the Southold Historical Society, the Treasury Exchange and North Fork Parish Outreach and a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Mattituck and St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Greenport.

Surviving are her husband, Christopher; five children, Christopher W. Karb, III of Asheville, NC, Dorothy Fontaine of San Francisco, Ca., Peter William Karb of Milling ton, NJ, Mary Beyer of Highland Mills, NY, and Jennifer Sweeney of Fair Oaks, Ca.; a brother, William B. Farrell, Jr.; a sister, Grace Farrell-Dardis of Carmichael, Ca.; and 12 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christopher and Michael Karb, William, Thomas, John, Maggie and James Beyer, Sumner Fontaine and Patrick, Kathryn and Thomas Sweeney. She was predeceased by her sisters, Maureen Melczer, Kathleen Dennin and Agnes McCartin.

The family welcomed friends on November 6 at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes in Southold where prayer services were conducted that afternoon. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on November 7 in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church by Father Thomas Murray. Interment was at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Cemetery in Greenport.
