Former Southold resident Denise Ivans died on Sunday in Bayville, NY. She was 88 years old.
Mrs. Ivans was born in Whitestone, NY, on September 11, 1918 to Louis and Esther Voluz. She married Richard Ivans on November 7, 1942 and together they made their home in Whitestone. Denise and Richie first came to Kochís Bungalows in Peconic in 1955 and the family enjoyed many happy vacations there. They retired to Southold in 1980. Denise was a resident of Colonial Village before her move to her sonís home in Bayville in 2003.
Mrs. Ivans was predeceased by her beloved husband Richie in 1987. She is survived by her son, Richard Ivans and his wife Donna Marie and by daughter, Kathleen Ivans Bero and her husband Robert. Other survivors are her sister Lucie Diehl of Greenport as well as three grandchildren, Julie Bero, and Ryan and Brendan Roethel.
Mrs. Ivans was a parishioner at St. Patrickís Church in Southold, where she sang in the choir. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Southold Senior Citizens. Her poetry and storytelling gave countless hours of joy and laughter to her family and friends.
The family received friends at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Hoe in Southold on Tuesday. A mass of Christian Burial is being held today with the accompaniment of her dear friends in the choir. Internment will follow at St. Patrickís Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Southold.
Memorial donations may be made to Convent House or to the Veteranís Nursing Home in Stony Brook.
