Lillian Disken

Died: Friday, September 29, 2006
Age: 79
Lillian Disken, daughter of John and Lillian Terry Disken, died on September 29 on Freeport. She was laid to rest at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, next to her sister Dorothy who died on September 1.

Miss Disken was born on January 1, 1927 in Brooklyn and grew up in Rosedale, Queens. She graduated from St. Joseph’s College for Women, and later served as the president of the alumnae association. She worked in the city as a teacher and a guidance counselor. After her retirement she and her sister Dorothy became full time residents of their former summer home in Montauk.

An advocate for preserving the environment of the area, Miss Disken was a founding member of the Concerned Citizens of Montauk. She was also active in the Democratic Party and served as the Democratic representative from Montauk on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Miss Disken loved music, especially opera, and was a Met subscriber who thought nothing of the long trip to Lincoln Center on Saturdays. She spent her winter on Marco Island, where she enjoyed playing golf and tennis.

She is survived by her cousins, Dan and Terry Briganti of Baldwin, Diane Bell of Sarasota, Fl., Genevieve Dalpé of Anaheim Hills, Ca. and George Hines of Lake George. A funeral service was held at Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton on October 3.
