Emanuel Xefos

Died: Thursday, September 21, 2006
Age: 86
Emanuel Xefos of East Marion died at his home September 21.

Mr. Xefos was born in Thompsonville, Connecticut on July 15, 1920 to Ajax and Effie (nee Papahondrou) Xefos. He was a graduate of Commerce High School in New York City and proudly served in the 11th Armor Division of the United States Army during World War II. On February 19, 1949, he married the former Maria Makras at the Greek Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Manhattan.

For 30 years, he was a salesman of fine furs and was a member of the fur union.

Formerly of Sunnyside, Queens, Mr. Xefos had lived in East Marion since 1980 and was a member of St. Anargyroi, Taxiarhis and Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church in Greenport.

He is survived by his wife, Maria; a brother, George Xefos of New Jersey; a sister, Mary Sempepos of Brooklyn; and loving friends, George Tsismenakis, Artemios and Stella Tsismenakis and family and Sofia and Michael Antoniadis. He was predeceased by his brothers, Peter and John Xefos.

The family received friends at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold where Trisagion services were held. The funeral liturgy was celebrated by Father Gerasimos Ballas in Sts. Anargyroi, Taxiarhis and Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church. Interment, with military honors, was at the East Marion Cemetery.
