Mary Colleen Tooker passed away peacefully at Peconic Bay Skilled Nursing Center in Riverhead last Thursday.
Mrs. Tooker was born on June 4, 1933 to Harry and Eleanor Cross in Elk Garden, West Virginia. After graduating from Keyser High School, in Keyser, West Virginia in 1951, she went to work in Washington D.C., first for a senator, then for the FBI.
In 1952 she met and married her husband of 21 years, Marshall Don Tooker, an Army serviceman at the time. Their first son Stephen was born in August 1953 and their second son John was born in June 1955.
After settling in Riverhead, Mrs. Tooker and her husband ran Suffolk Car Wash on East Main Street. Then they both worked for Thurmís Mobile Homes.
Friends and family said she balanced the demands of full time work and motherhood and made it look easy. She always said family and friends made life worth living. Even after fighting a long illness she still valued them immensely.
She is survived by her sons Stephen and John, grandson Allen and wife Lisa, all of Riverhead; her daughter-like-niece Linda of Shirley; brother Harry of Florida and sister Martha Ann of Maryland.
Visitation was held last Sunday with a prayer service at Tuthillís Funeral Home in Riverhead.
