Concetta R. Schiavoni died on July 16 in Sag Harbor. She was the matriarch of a large and very successful family, in the forefront of a wave of Italian-Americans who migrated to the village.
Mrs. Schiavoni was born on August 26, 1907 in New York City to Giuseppe LaSpina and Rosario Florio. She belonged to a variety of organizations including the St. Andrews Altar Society, the Southampton Hospital Volunteer Group, the Sag Harbor LVIS and the St. Andrews Prayer Group. During her life, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Schiavoni was predeceased by her husband Angelo, who founded the supermarket of the same name that still flourishes on Main Street. She is survived by her children John and Dorris Schiavoni, Joseph and Victoria Schiavoni, Leatrice and Joseph Sherry of Sag Harbor and Constance and William Taylor of Tallahassee, Florida. She also leaves behind a large extended family including 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at St. Andrews last Wednesday. Interment followed. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Mrs. Schiavoni in a special way may donate to the Sag Harbor Ambulance Corps, the St. Andrews Restoration Fund, or the Stella Maris Regional School.
