Obituaries

Michael Fouchet, Sr.

Died: Friday, June 30, 2006
Age: 44
Michael Fouchet, Sr., of Southold died at his home last Friday.

He was born in Jackson Heights, Queens on February 28, 1962 to Frances M. (nee Hughes) and John Fouchet, Sr. In 1980, he graduated from St. Francis Prep School in Flushing and earned a BA in marketing from Iona College in 1985. On August 13, 1988, he married the former Judi Boergesson at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Southold.

Formerly of Bayside, Queens, he had worked at the National Tennis Center for the U.S.T.A as a Grounds and Facilities Supervisor and had supervised over 20 US Opens. He was also a former basketball coach of NYU Women’s Archbishop Molloy High School Junior Varsity and St. Francis Prep H.S. Freshmen and the Southold Boy’s 8th grade teams.

In 1991, he moved to Southold after the birth of his first child. Here, he was a member of St. Patrick’s R.C. Church and was active in CYO, Little League and Southold Soccer having been a coach of all three. Several years ago, he ran the Osmer memorial Tennis Tourney.

Surviving are his wife Judi; three sons, Michael Jr., Christian and Peter; a brother, John Fouchet, Jr. of Boynton Beach, Florida; his in-laws, Cheryl and Tom Amara, Bob and Chris Boergesson, Bill and Val Boergesson and Erik and Jennifer Boergesson; five nieces and seven nephews, Allison and Jon Sclachter, Bailey, Chelsea and Chloe Boergesson, Nick Amara, Kerry Fouchet, Jacob, Alex, Brigham and Sam Boergesson and John Fouchet, III.

The family received friends on Saturday and Sunday at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes in Southold where vigil prayers were recited that evening. Father George Michell celebrated the Liturgy of Christian Burial on Monday at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Southold assisted by member of the Ministry of Consolation. Internment was in St. Patrick’s R.C. Cemetery.
