George H. Fisher

Died: Wednesday, June 14, 2006
Age: 86
George H. Fisher, of Southold, died at Eastern Long Island Hospital at 6:30 a.m. on June 14, due to congestive heart failure.

Fisher was born on December 10, 1919 in Southold to Alice and Henry Fisher. He married Katherine Grathwohl Fisher in September of 1951 at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church.

He attended Southold Grade and High School. Fisher later became the Department Chief and Company Secretary of Protection Engine Company for the Southold Fire Department. He was a member of Southold United Methodist Church and was a member of the Methodist Mensí Club and an Usher.

Fisher was also a carpenter and draftsman, as well as the Senior Building Inspector for Beebe Builders in the Town of Southold. He had his own architectural drafting business. He was part of the Southold Town Unit of Civil Service Employees Association and was a past Unit Secretary.

As a veteran of World War II, Fisher was a Sergeant and served for three years and seven months, from May 1942 to December 1945, in the Army Air Corp.

He is survived by his two children, Don Fisher and Donna Ackroyd of Southold; his brother Herbert Fisher of Mattituck; his sister Shirley Perry of Quogue; and four grandchildren, Benjamin and Evelyn Fisher, and Jennifer and Evan Ackroyd. His sister Flora Cantral of St. Petersburg, FL and his brother Ellsworth Fisher predeceased him.

The funeral was held June 16 at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, and the interment was at the Cutchogue Cemetery.
