Mildred Terp

Age: 76
Mildred M. Terp of Southold died on April 13 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport.

Mrs. Terp was born in Brooklyn on August 22, 1929 to Bertha (nee Nagel) and Henry Hallstein. She was raised there and later attended Bellevue Nursing School, graduating as a Registered Nurse. It was there that she met Ambrose R. Terp, whom she married on January 27, 1951.

Mrs. Terp worked as a Registered Nurse at Pilgrim State Hospital for many years. She took time off to raise her son Michael. In 1972, she returned to nursing at San Simeon Nursing Home in Greenport, working there until her retirement in 1995.

She loved animals and was an ardent contributor to the Humane Society, the ASPCA, as well as many other charitable organizations. A deeply generous woman, she loved to give gifts, and enjoyed collecting dolls and Hummels.

Mrs. Terp will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and courageous woman, whose strength guided her family. She was beloved by many and will be terribly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Ambrose R. Terp and by her son, Lieutenant Michael P. Terp, U.S. Navy, Groton Connecticut. She was predeceased by her siblings, Rita Petrosky and William Hallstein.

Funeral services were held last Thursday at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.
