Thomas Severance

Thomas R. Severance, known as "Ron," died at his home in Sag Harbor on April 1 after a short illness.

Mr. Severance was born in the Bronx to Thomas and Alice Galligan Severance Cimaglia on February 9, 1934. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School and joined the Air Force in 1952, where he became a tactical fighter pilot, flying F-86s and F-100s. He achieved the rank of lieutenant and retired from the Air Force in 1959, and served in the Air National Guard until 1970, when he retired as a Captain.

He joined Milady Publishing Corp in 1959, a leading publisher of educational materials for Cosmetology and Barbering, founded in 1927 by his adopted father Nicholas F. Cimalgia. He became its president in 1979 and retired in 1989 when the company was sold.

Mr. Severance was an active member of the New York Athletic Club and was an avid handball player, fisherman, and gardener.

He is survived by his wife, Ann (nee Trunzo); his sons and their wives, James and Miyuki, Douglas and Deborah, and Charles, all of Sag Harbor; two sisters, Helen J. Lombardozzi of Van Buren, MO, Virginia M. Severance of Palm Harbor, FL; six grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visiting hours were held at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home on April 3 and 4. Memorial donations may be made to the Sag Harbor Ambulance and East End Hospice.
