Meditation on War
The American war dead in Iraq has reached 3,000.
I offer the following meditation to their memory.
Shock and Awe in Iraq
We are now 3,000,
Untimely gone in youth,
When life pulses and promises,
And gifts us with choices.
But others made our choices for us,
And we followed Duty,
Not knowing we would leave those we loved
On the other side of Time.
Those who commanded us,
Must now bear the burden of their power,
They must re-visit Reason and
ask everything of themselves,
For they can ask no more of us.
We are now 3,000, untimely gone,
Three thousand hearts forever still.
We are now 3,000. How many more?
