I wish to thank the voters for the overwhelming vote of confidence this Election Day. It was, indeed, heartening to be returned to the State Assembly for the Second District for another term. There is no greater privilege in a democracy than to be selected by your neighbors to represent them in Albany or Washington. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve again.
I am looking forward to addressing the major issues which confront our region. We live in a special place and we face great challenges. Property tax reform, the environment, education, transportation, and housing are all on the public agenda. This past year, I worked to create a remarkable opportunity for higher education at SUNY Southampton, address the environmental issues in the Forge River, and also preserved more open space like Amsterdam Beach in East Hampton. I will continue my fierce advocacy for eastern Long Island no matter how big or small the issue may be.
Finally, for years I have voted for and promoted reform of our State government. Legislative leaders in Albany have begun the process of reform, but it is clear more needs to be done. I look forward to the challenge
Again, thank you to those who have given me their support.
