Tempting Faith

Dear Letters at The Independent,

Just recently read a synopsis of a book called Tempting Faith by David Kuo, number-two man at the "Office of Faith Based Initiatives" in the White House. In it he decries the hypocrisy and complete covert lack of respect shown by the Bush administration toward he and the very flock that put him in office, the Faith-Based Christian Evangelists. David Kuo, when interviewed on CBS' "60 Minutes," stated that Karl Rove's office referred to Evangelist leaders as "The Nuts."

The likes of Robertson, Baurers, Falwell, Schlaflys, Dobson, et al, were called "Ridiculous," "Out of Control" and "Goofy." Republican TV personality Tucker Carlson further stated, "The deep truth is that the elites in the Republican Party have pure contempt for the Evangelicals that put their Party in power."

It should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following the tactics of this administration since its inception that lies, trickery, hypocrisy and deception are their modus operandi, their behavioral norm. And it should also come as no surprise that they would have contempt and disrespect for their Faith-Based voters as they have shown to have toward all Americans, save the wealthy. This administration, judged by [its] actions, has conversely earned the disrespect of the ever-growing majority of Americans.

However, if the Bush administration's negative view of the Christian Evangelical Extremists is true, it has for me, for the first time, diminished toward this administration, my personal disrespect . . . but only a spec.
