Need Food

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Every autumn, you hear from me again, asking for your help in providing for the Montauk Food Pantry. You have been there for us in the past, and we hope that you will continue to care about our work, of providing some minimum supplies in the way of food, for Montauk families who need help over the winter months. Much of our support goes to families whose breadwinner is out of work over the winter, having a seasonal job during the rest of the year.

We currently have some stock of dry and canned food from last winter, plus a May delivery from Long Island Cares, the Long Island food bank, which was our distribution from the Postal Workers Food Drive. We also have some money in the bank to support the purchases which we will have to make to supplement our stock, as we begin regular distribution in November of this year.

Our once-a-month distribution will occur through April of next year, before we close for the summer, during which we do only emergency deliveries; most of our families have regular income at that time.

In order to provide our usual three bags of dry goods, plus chicken or other frozen meat, over these six months of regular distribution, we need the community's ongoing contribution of food in our collection bins, the Montauk School food drives by the children, and cash donations to support our supplemental monthly purchases.

Your continued help would be greatly appreciated by our clients and our community. Checks may be made out to the Montauk Food Pantry and mailed to 50 Dorset Road, Montauk, New York 11954. We thank you for your generous support in the past and hope you will see fit to help us again this year.
