Homeland “Security?”

Dear Editor of the East Hampton Independent,

We keep hearing the same sing song from this administration; "We're the ones that will keep you safe." Despite all the bravado and self-promotion, an embarrassing as well as revealing event just took place on 9/18. A run of the mill RV, driven by a run of the mill driver managed to crash through the barriers surrounding the United States Capital, and armed with a pistol work his way into the building. He was finally captured in the rotunda. Inside the Capital . . . in the rotunda! No, it's not a gag; it's Homeland Security.

If we cannot protect our nation's capital from being successfully infiltrated by an amateur, deranged or not, how can we possibly be kept safe from terrorists, trained in the craft of inflicting maximum damage on us even with the sacrifice of their own life? This administration is banking on the fact that they have so successfully frightened the American public that repeating the same old mantra, "We are the ones that will keep you safe" over and over will be accepted as truth by the traumatized public. Facts prove otherwise.

The trick has worked so far. Elections are coming up. It will be interesting to see if the voters remain as easily manipulated as they have been.
