As the "Great Communicator" actor/president Reagan quipped in his performance debate with honest, plain spoken Jimmy Carter, "There you go again." As if an echo, there goes again his Republican party's, play-back, pay-back.
The Republican-dominated Congress has managed to once again doom the possibility of raising the minimum hourly wage which has not been increased since President Clinton's administration. It would have helped to raise it, although it would still have been well below the poverty line, but a trifle less so. But Noooo! Why should they be raising the minimum wage for the poorest of our citizens who need the help without tacking on rewards for Bush's "Base," the wealthiest contributors to the Republican Party who would in turn return some of their unneeded windfall to the Republican coffers? Fair is fair. Either way the "Base" wins; big business still gets its cheap labor and the middle class continues to be sacrificed.
They disguise the "Estate Tax" which only aides the extreme wealthy to keep their fortunes in the family as a "Death Tax," which should be called a "Debt Tax" for all others since it allows those with nothing to leave, to leave nothing but that, to their kin. And those Tax breaks for the poor oil industry, reaping profits as never in their history disguised as helping small businesses. What a joke!
And that beat goes on . . . and on . . . and on . . . "till we stop it.
