Illegal Torture

Dear Editor of the East Hampton Indy,

They Hate Us For Our Freedom! How many times have we heard our Commander in Chief spout this simplistic rational for why a particular segment of people in the world have such extreme animosity toward our country? Perhaps it's a shallow view as one might expect, but let us give him credit for thinking outside the box. At least he is following through trying to eliminate that possibility.

Eliminate our Freedom and thereby eliminate their hatred. Brilliant!

The Patriot Act was a wise move in that direction. Follow that with circumventing legal court approved domestic phone tapping and ditto with monetary transactions and we're on a role. Perhaps our earlier enemies are already warming up to us. Add to that, using executive privilege to authorize the illegal torture of prisoners and use it at will and at any time to authorize any other illegal actions. It must feel great to be Commander In Chief and to dictate the laws that you choose just because you chose them. If memory serves me right, a few years ago we toppled a huge statue of just such a Commander In Chief. I believe we called him a Dictator. What the heck; Commander in Chief or Dictator, it's all a matter of semantics.

Pretty soon we will be able to hug our past enemy and they in turn declare their love for us and the riddance of that pesky thing called Freedom. We can welcome them as equals. I love a happy ending.

But what if they hate us for other more complicated
