Last year I wrote an article concerning "My Favorite Hampton Moment" for The Independent I was very pleased and honored to win. Now I would like to write about the opposite situation.
"My Most Distressing Hampton Moment."
The cause for this? Piping Plovers. As I stated in my article how much I love the beach, walking along the ocean. It is one of my greatest pleasures and a stress reliever. I can think in peace, meditate, something that is hard to accomplish elsewhere. What the beach defines for me. But alas!!! The whole reason for this special time is ruined. Why? The Privileged Darlings at the Beach? No, not people but Piping Plovers.
They ruin my focus and concentration the reason for my being there in the first place. Then it begins. Their nerve wracking loud and ugly twittering screams. They dart like missiles up and down almost attacking my head. I even hate the way they look. Their compact little bodies and pointed black heads. I have had to turn back more times than I care to count. Because they upset me, frustrate and frighten me. I guess it comes down to who has the most power over our Hampton beaches? Those of us who live here and enjoy "Our Beaches" is one of the main reasons we are here to begin with. It seems to me and many others like myself. The power is theirs and we resent them. If they never come back again they will not be missed, but happily forgotten forever!!!
