Just saw on TV Bush's latest attempt to secure the mid-term vote. It was the dramatic Sneaki Iraqi Photo-op. Thank goodness he did not wear his Fighter Pilot Costume. Nevertheless, the stunt will probably add a few points to his dismal poll ratings. Rove knows how easily voters can be manipulated, and he is after all, Bush's brain.
Bush was craftily capitalizing on a bit of rare upbeat news for the White House: the death of Al Qaida's Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi and Rove's note from Special Council Patrick J. Fitzgerald that he "Does not anticipate seeking charges" relevant to the C.I.A. leak. Now come the aggressive bravado speeches to sway the dissuaded American public back to supporting his no-strategy plan to extricate our dying boys and girls from his no-ending Iraq war: "Stay the course" of course. The best defense is a dramatic offense. Ask Karl.
Bush once again did his eye examination. When in 2001 he looked into the eyes of Putin he said, "I looked the man in the eye. I was able to get a sense of his soul." Now he stealthfully flew to Iraq to look Prime Minister Maliki in the eye. Let us hope that Bush's vision has improved. But maybe I'm being too critical. Perhaps he is merely a closet optometrist. Surely he couldn't handle that job any worse than he has his present.
