I want to compliment you for Jack Michel's recent piece on aging called "Nothing Lasts Forever." It was one of the most insightful pieces I've ever read on the topic in a long time. I am not gay, but I am a senior citizen and he is so right to say that we elders are grateful to have known a finer way of life. But he is wrong to think collecting Social Security is any worthy competition! Also, he more than my family and neighbors has helped make me understand the lost look in young people's eyes these days and their lack of drive or interest in most things except bad clothing, bad music, and bad films. Perhaps it is a type of fatalism from facing a future with so few good things or people ahead of them. I look forward to reading your paper each week.
