My name is Alyssa Sardone and I'm in the sixth grade (I was actually just in your newspaper last week, and you had the caption printed as a fifth grader instead of sixth grader — oops!). I need help from The Independent because people all over the "East End" and even NYC read your paper. I am involved in Relay of the Hamptons. It will be on June 9 from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. This is an overnight event to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. It is being held in only eight weeks at the Hampton Bays High School. So far we have only 16 teams. This isn't even close to the goal of 100 set by Karen Hurst (the coordinator and a survivor). The donation goal is $100,000.
So far I have raised $2709 and the event total raised is about $11,000. Bocaccini's Pizzeria in Hampton Bays says they'll match up to $3000.
Although I was recently interviewed by the Southampton Press, Relay of the Hamptons need much more good press . . . free advertising . . .sponsors. Something . . . anything would be appreciated. People in Southampton, East Hampton, Amagansett, Montauk, Springs, etc. don't know about this important event and we need them to help us reach $100,000 and help save lives like my sister's. Can you help me with a good cause?
