Bush’s Follies

Dear Editor:

During the previous administration 10 years ago, cancer research funding was made a priority. Because of this, many more victims of that dreaded disease are alive today due to discoveries made of new drugs to fight cancer as well as new methods of treatment and pain easement. Anyone who has had cancer of any type or has a loved one, friend or acquaintance that was a victim, will especially appreciate the benefit which that administration's cancer research funding made available. The people of America reaped the benefits.

That was then, but this is now; now 10 years later Bush has reversed the goal of ridding the earth of the dreaded cancer by initiating his own equally dreaded budget cuts for cancer research . . . and there will be more. It's nothing short of amazing the way the priorities of this administration differ from the one prior in which the benefit of the American people were of primary importance rather than big business, corporations, and the wealthy and their shameful tax cuts.

Back then there had even been an effort to have America join the rest of the modern civilized, industrialized western world with Universal Health Care. Unfortunately the Republican Congress with the help of their distorting "Harry and Louise" commercials, deprived the American people of what today would be the saving grace for so very, very many. Perhaps some day Hillary will get another chance.

Editor's Note: Let's not get too carried away.
