My 4th of July
July 03, 2013 | 02:14 AM

Jerry ... At only 267 years old this 4th of July, it's hard to believe that America is the best place to be in the world. But it is. Simple as that! The Roman and Ottoman empires fell after several hundred years. The USSR is gone after only 70. So, we’re doing pretty good so far because, as you said, we have our Supreme Court. As long as they ultimately get it “right” from a Constitutional (yet socially evolving) standpoint, I trust we’ll be OK. So, screw our temporary Presidents and Congress, with their own vested political and financial interests, and thank God for The Court (however “left” or “right” at a time, it’s better than them.)

Meanwhile, my reason for loving Kate Smith as I do is because she's the seventh inning voice of "God Bless America" at every NY Yankees home game. Powerful, short, and sweet. And (LOL) thank you Kate, now let's get back to baseball.

As for Ray Charles ... I have no words to describe how good I feel when I hear him sing anything. So, that's it for me about Ray.

Meanwhile, wouldn’t it be great to hear again, the immortal and recorded words of Bob Sheppard (“The Voice of God”, R.I.P.), announcing the return of Derek Jeter to the New York Yankees line-up …

“Now batting, the shortstop, number two, Derek Jeter, number two."

Won’t happen this 4th, but stay tuned. Real music we can actually use! Bill Crandall
