The newest addition to the Sag Harbor restaurant scene is up and running. Opened by Jerry and Sue Wawryk with executive chef Jessie Flores, Page at 63 Main puts a new spin on Hamptons dining -- Italian American fare with a Spanish flare, and it's a good guess it will be all the rage this season. The fusion of flavors delivers something new and unexpected at this traditional white tablecloth establishment.
The grilled baby calamari with frisee, red pepper, scallions, peanuts, smoky chipotle vinaigrette and avocado was exciting, different, and delicious. The lightly grilled squid with charred smoky flavors provided a palatable textural presence to a local favorite.
The crisp and flavorful local baby beet salad with watercress, red endive, smoked cheddar cheese, apples and iced wine vinaigrette was also excellent. The fresh sweet flavor of the beets with the smoked cheddar cheese gave a nice unexpected taste.
The steamed buns prepared with pickled cucumber, avocado, scallions, cilantro, green curry, soy glaze and smoked coconut with a choice of shitake mushrooms or braised pork belly drew raves. We decided on the pork while acknowledging the vegetarian friendly option (The menu has multiple options for vegans and vegetarians.). The mixture of bold flavors with the herb filled green curry worked nicely with braised pork belly.
The homemade light and fluffy black bean ravioli with tomato concasse, perfectly spiced chorizo ragout and parmesan cheese was another choice menu item.
For the main course the seared fluke filet was perfect. Served with baby bok choy, plantain puree and carrot beurre blank, the fluke had a crisp sear while the entire dish had nice clean flavors.
The grilled sirloin steak with celery root gratin, sautéed spinach and herb red wine sauce was yet another stand-out. The creamy celery gratin added unique flavor while the steak was cooked to perfection.
For dessert, a beautiful tres leches.
Plans are also in motion for Page at 63 Main to open café, Berry Page, on the side of the building for this upcoming summer season, serving a variety of treats, juices, coffees and individualized picnic baskets; we are eagerly awaiting the opening!
