Ringing In The New Year, East End Style
By Lisa Finn, Carey London, and Kitty Merrill
It's the biggest party of the year and everyone's vying for your attention. Across the East End, restaurants and inns are ringing in the New Year with all kinds of prix fixe specials and revelry. So, wherever you end up, make sure to sing "Auld Lang Syne," one of the most popular songs that nobody knows the lyrics to, make and break those resolutions and revel with your friends and neighbors into the wee hours of the morning.
At Della Femina's in East Hampton, diners delight to a special five-course tasting menu. Pick from two savory samplings for each course, except dessert. Gourmands can get their sweet tooth on picking from a selection of holiday desserts. As the turn-of-the-annum approaches, patrons may don tiaras and party hats, ring in the New Year with noisemakers and make a champagne toast. Call 329-6666.
The Lodge in East Hampton does it up in style with a no cover party featuring a DJ and party favors. The regular menu is supplemented with Kobe beef, giant three-pound lobsters, chateaubriand and king crab legs. Doors open at 5:30, and they're serving on New Year's Day, too. Call 324-5022.
Also boasting a DJ, dancing and party favors is Bamboo restaurant and sushi lounge on Montauk Highway in East Hampton. At 8:30, revelers adjourn to the upstairs dining room for a five-course sit down dinner. And, after you've danced yourself hungry again, the traditional sunrise buffet assuages the appetites of survivors at dawn. Oodles of entertainment is on tap with music by the five piece band, East Side Express and the piece de resistance: the tribute trio The Rat Pack makes it groovy, baby, as they channel Frank Dino and Sammy Davis Junior. Tickets for the whole evening run just $160. Call 668-2345, but hurry. A limited number of overnight packages are available.
