Pierson 77, Shelter Island 44

Game Highlights:

Keith Robinson scored a season-high 20 points and added seven assists and seven rebounds as Pierson (1-3 in League VIII, 2-7 overall) won its first league game of the season and snapped a seven-game losing skid. Senior guard Dave Locascio added 16 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds for the Whalers as Shelter Island fell to 0-3.

Bridgehampton 78, Southold 68

Game Highlights:

Irving Fayman led the way for the Killer Bees in their win over the Southold First Settlers, scoring nine of his 31 points in first quarter that was dominated by Bridgehampton 22-8. Terrence Hires was the top-point producer for the Bees in the opening quarter, scoring 10 points and finishing with 24. Max Spooner had his best offensive game of the season, connecting on a pair of three-pointers on his way to a sparkling 16-point performance.

Spooner may prove to be a key player this season and an excellent complementary weapon to Fayman and Hires as the season progresses.

East Hampton 72, Comsewogue 36

Game Highlights:

The yet-to-be defeated East Hampton Bonackers outscored the Comsewogue Warriors 17-3 in the first quarter and built their lead to 43-10 by halftime. Zach Brenneman scored 12 of his 15 points first half and Marcus Edwards also scored 15 points. SEE STORY.

Babylon 46, Southampton 44

Game Highlights:

Southampton nearly took a 3-1 Babylon team to overtime, only to see Panthers guard Steven Morvay knock down a 10-foot jumper with only 1.9 seconds remaining in regulation that snapped a 44-44 tie. The Mariners had tied the game at 44-44 with 18 seconds left in the game after Steven Andrews (9 points) nailed a three-pointer. Jason Halsey led Southampton with 13 points.

Southampton 78, Port Jefferson 58

Game Highlights:

The Mariners improved to 3-1 in League VII as Nick Epley led Southampton with 22 points and Troy Pender added 15 points and a game-high 13 assists. Jason Halsey added 13 points for the second consecutive game.

Game Highlights:

Sophomore Ryan Creighton posted a triple-double against the Bees, scoring 33 points, grabbing 17 rebounds and registering a career-high 10 steals for Greenport. Wally Sorenson (14 points, two threes) also had his best game of the season for the undefeated Porters (5-0 in League VIII) as Bridgehampton slipped to 3-2 in league play.

Westhampton 44, Bayport-Blue Point 31

Scoring Summary:

Game Highlights:

In another solid team effort, Westhampton won its fourth straight League VI game, led by junior forward Kelly Cavallo's 11 points and 12 rebounds. Tenea Stilley and Kate Kissane each added eight points for the Lady Hurricanes, which outscored Bayport-Blue Point (2-3 in League VI) 28-16 from the beginning of the second quarter to the end of the third quarter. The two teams were tied at 8-8 after the first quarter.

Hampton Bays 45, Port Jefferson 40

Scoring Summary:

Game Highlights:

Hampton Bays needed overtime to dispose of Port Jefferson as Sammi Krantz scored four of the Lady Baymen's six points in the extra frame. Krantz (7 points) was the standout in the overtime, pulling down four rebounds to finish with eight.

If it weren't for teammate Genna Kovar's superb defensive play, Hampton Bays wouldn't have made it to the overtime. Kovar's steal at half court with 20 second remaining in the fourth quarter and the Baymen trailing 39-37 was a welcomed play, especially after she converted her steal into a lay-up to tie the game at 39-39 with 15 seconds left.

Kovar had a brilliant game, nearly posting an ultra-rare "quadruple double." She scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, handed out eight assists and also made eight steals. Marian Leman was another major factor for Hampton Bays (3-1 in League VII), scoring 12 points and pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Pierson 65, Ross 28

Scoring Summary:

Game Highlights:

In a game played at Bridgehampton High School, the Whalers sailed to their easiest win of the season, outscoring Ross 24-6 in the first quarter. Katie Osiecki (game-high 18 points) and Naqueeta Briggs (17) combined for 35 points and eighth grader Sabina Fayman added 14 points as Pierson improved to 3-2 in League VIII.

Westhampton 65, Shoreham-Wading River 44

Game Highlights:

Kelly Cavallo scorched the Lady Wildcats (3-3) for 22 of her game-high 28 points in Westhampton's first half as her team took a 36-21 lead into the start of the third quarter. The Lady Hurricanes (5-1) have now won eight straight games including five straight League VI games. Cavallo has scored 28 or more points, four times this season.

Senior point guard Jen Polan had another outstanding game, scoring 15 points and dishing out a game-high 11 assists. Polan is averaging close to eight assists per game, putting her among the leaders in that category in Long Island high school girls' basketball. Tenea Stilley added 10 points for Westhampton.
