On The Beat

Easy There, Little Buddy

A New Jersey jerk was charged with criminal mischief early Friday morning. Cops say he had a hissy at a Hampton Bays bar and flipped the pool table, damaging it. He punched a plexi-glass window so hard it cracked and was dislodged from its frame. The guy fled the scene on foot, but Southampton cops captured him nearby.

Earlier in the month the same saloon was in the blotter after cops charged a patron with misdemeanor assault. Described as "highly intoxicated," he's accused of biting a fellow combatant during a dispute.

Another disturbance — this one at Cedar Beach in Southold Town — led to the arrest of a Peconic teenager last Wednesday night. Cops say that during the course of investigating the disturbance, they learned the kid was holding six small packets of marijuana.

Christmas Eve saw a quartet of East Quogue teens and their Westhampton companion under arrest for under age drinking. The boys, all 18, were hauled in to HQ (Merry Christmas Mom and Dad!) after police pulled their car over in Hampton Bays for an improper turn. The driver and an occupant of the car were additionally charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The same night in Mattituck, a local man was charged with DWI. Cops stopped him doing 82 in a 55 mph zone. He was also charged with a count of UPM, and giving a ticket for consuming alcohol in the car. Southold Town Police reported a second DWI arrest, on Thursday, of a Greenport habitué. He was stopped for a traffic infraction on Mattituck, and found faced.
