East Hampton High School basketball coach Ed Petrie has been named a recipient of a 2006 Frank McGuire Award.
Petrie and the three other recipients will be honored at the annual Frank McGuire Foundation awards dinner at the New York Athletic Club on November 1.
McGuire, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, was a standout player at St. John's University, the team's captain, high scorer and most valuable player.
He went on to coach for his alma mater and later at the University of North Carolina and the University of South Carolina.
The Foundation, formed by a number of former players and colleagues who had a special relationship with McGuire, has pledged to keep his legacy alive by honoring high school coaches "whose devotion and ideals exemplify integrity, achievement and the continual quest for excellence."
Petrie, who has coached on the East End for almost five decades, is one of the most successful coaches in New York State history. Anyone interested in attending the dinner please call Kay Cassidy at 914-779-9696 or Bill McKee at 329-7640.
