Teams Grab Cook-Off Trophies
The Boardy Barn in Hampton Bays was packed Sunday but not with twenty-something revelers guzzling beer. No, it was family day and hundreds paid $7 to sample some of the finest chili and clam chowder cooked up by restaurants and local amateur chefs.
And the winners? Sunwater's Grill grabbed first place in the New England-style chowder entry, garnering a majority of votes from both the attending public's ballots and the official judging panel which was comprised of Southampton Town Supervisor Skip Heaney, Dana Kallio from WLNG, and Sister Bernadette from St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Hampton Bays.
Father and son team James and Bruce Wilkie of Steamfitters Local 638 wowed crowds with their super-spicy chili recipe and took first place in that category. The money raised from the event will be used to fund Chamber activities and the Hampton Bays High School scholarship fund.
Both winning teams received a silver trophy bowl.
