Wednesday, August 30

• The Yard Program in Sag Harbor will be hosting the last "Beach Night" at Long Beach starting at 7 p.m. A huge concert will be held featuring several local bands including Too Busy Being Bored, which won battle of the bands in Hampton Bays, Black Out and The Rice Brothers. Admission is free.

Thursday, August 31

• At 11 a.m. there is a "Snapper Derby," an all-day snapper fishing contest for children ages five to 14 in the Shinnecock Canal in Hampton Bays (behind the Parks and Recreation Building). Residents only. Pre-registration required. The festivities are free and sponsored by Southampton Town Parks and Recreation.

• At 7:30 p.m. "Vivian and The Merrimakers" will be the next installment of the Free Sag Harbor Outdoor Concert Series at the Sag Harbor Chamber Of Commerce. Call 725-0011.

Friday, September 1

• At 7 p.m. the Eastern Long Island Audubon Society will offer a program to see live owls up close and learn about their lives and how they survive. Reservations are requested, but the program is free; for all ages. Call 653-4771 to register and get directions to the Quogue Refuge.

• At 3 p.m. the first of the four-day "60th Shinnecock Pow-Wow" starts at the West Gate of the Shinnecock Reservation off the Montauk Highway in Southampton. Call 287-2460.

• The Southampton Town Board has a scheduled work session for 10 a.m. at Town Hall.

• Southampton Challah Time, when kids knead Challah, is held every Friday through today at the Chabad in Southampton Jewish Center; call 287-2249.

Saturday, September 2

• At 10 a.m., a walk through Shadmoor State Park lead by Eva Moore will begin in the Shadmoor Parking lot on the south side of Rt. 27, about a half mile past Montauk Center. The trial offers views of WWII bunkers and the local bluffs. In case of mud, bring appropriate shoes. For more information, call 329-4227.

• At 10 a.m., the "60th Shinnecock Pow-Wow" starts at the West Gate of the Shinnecock Reservation. Grand Entry at 12 p.m.

• The Westhampton Beach Farmers Market will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mill Road, through November 11. Call 288-1559.

• Bridge players (experienced or newcomers) can try their hand at the game at the Quogue Library every Saturday at 10 a.m. Several tables are grouped by ability, so you can learn from a seasoned player or just improve by practicing. If you plan to attend, call 653-4224.

Sunday, September 3

Thursday, August 31

• The Treehouse Shakers present the premiere of their original dance play, Coyote's Dance, today at 11 a.m. at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. The set, comprised of several trampolines, keeps audiences awestruck as the performers fly, jump, and dance through the air. Call 288-1500.

NORTH FORK

Wednesday, August 30

• From 5 to 8 p.m. the Town of Southold is offering a Young Teen BBQ Night at Tasker Park, sponsored by Bridgehampton National Bank. Activities will include tennis, Frisbee, wiffleball, etc. Participants can bring any game they would like. Refreshments are provided. This event is free for all local youths, and will also feature a "speak out" forum so that all participants can express ideas as to what types of activities, programs, special events and other things they would like to see offered in town. • Today at 4 p.m., the Summer Showcase Concert Series presents a performance aimed at a younger crowd, Janice Buckner, Songs and Puppetry. At 7:30 p.m. the organization will also present the David Dingle Trio. Both concerts will be held on the Village Green, Main Street in Southold. Bring a chair or blanket. Donations are appreciated. • The Mattituck-Cutchogue Board of Education will be meeting today for a walk through district schools.

• Cast call for the Maritime Pirates, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Southold Recreation Center 970 Peconic Lane, Southold. Looking for "pirates, wenches and kids."
