Coast 2 Coast Cruises Through Competition

Terrell Dozier, a former East Hampton High School basketball star and Division III college standout, has once again led the 16 and under boys AAU basketball team to a stellar record this summer.

Team Coast 2 Coast #2 currently holds a 28-5 record with several major tournament wins to its credit including victories in New Jersey and Massachusetts, where the team went 6-0. Coast 2 Coast #2 also won six of its seven games before losing in the regional of the Hempstead Island Garden tournament.

They won their pool in a recent tournament in Houston, Texas, going 1-2, losing both games by a total of five points and they also found success in a Baltimore tournament; going 5-1 before losing in the semifinals. During their most recent tournament, the Nike Main Event, held in Las Vegas, Coast 2 Coast #2 played six games, winning five to reach the final 16.

"They all played great out there and we peaked at the right time," said Dozier. Coast 2 Coast knocked off two teams from Wisconsin along with squads from Las Vegas, Texas and California.

"It's their third year playing together and they've made tremendous strides as a team as well as individuals," Dozier said. "We're really seeing the fruits of our labor right now and we're just trying to get better and add pieces to the puzzle along the way."

The 16 and under team consists of numerous high school basketball standouts from across the East End including East Hampton's Mike Russell and Marcus Edwards, Bridgehampton's Irving Fayman, Hampton Bays' Nick Lynch, Pierson's Steve McCarron, Greenport's Ryan Creighton, Riverhead's Robert Skeeter, Kyle Gordon and Tim McKay, Center Moriches' Alex Snead, Bellport's Steven Edwards, Longwood's Errol Daniyan and Mattituck's Alan Cardinale. Dozier coaches the team along with Garrett King and Art Miller.

"Mikey Russell is one of the top five players on the island right now, Longwood's Errol Daniyan is ready for a breakout season and Ryan Creighton is going to be a real special player," Dozier said. "Our team, as a whole, has good role players and everybody contributes."

The 16 and under team along with the 15 and under and 13 and under Coast 2 Coast squads will each participate in the second annual Coast 2 Coast Classic on August 25. The showcase, which benefits the scholarship funds of Kendall Madison, Brandon Hayes and Christopher Ranum, will take place at the Southampton Recreation Center with the 13 and under team playing the Bunky Reid All-Stars at 5 p.m. followed by the 15 and under team taking on the Long Island Defenders at 7 p.m. The 16 and under team plays the Long Island Lightning-Asher team at 9 p.m. Awards will be handed out after each game. There will also be a raffle to win an autographed Nate Robinson jersey.

"This is a good opportunity to show the community what we're doing and to get a chance for the kids to play in front of their family and hometown fans," Dozier said. "As a program, we're going into our fourth year and we're striving to become that elite national team and hopefully get some of these kids' basketball scholarships. We're trying to help as many kids as we can."
