At the Montauk Movie House, Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is not as bad as its title. Where do they come up with such long and unfamiliar names? In any case, the NASCAR race-themed movie, starring Will Ferrell, starts off real good and funny. It does go astray with too many subplots, I think. There is a funny grandfather who threatens to put his grandchild in the microwave. The parts with the rival French racer are very funny. The tale about a southern pit crew guy who accidentally gets his big racing chance — and gets a Cougar in his front seat, as well — is entertaining, but still drags in parts, as does saying the title over and over 10 times to yourself. Will Ferrell co-wrote the script. We give it 2 and 1/2 tennis balls.
