Turbush Takes The Lead
Hampton Bays representative "Dynamite" Dan Turbush continued to etch bonus chapters on a legendary career of racing with his last two performances in Riverhead's Raceway Super Pro Trucks division. On July 8, Turbush, the all-time leader in career wins drove his Daytona Industries Chevrolet Silverado to his first checkered flag victory of the season and followed that performance with a second place finish in the SPT feature held on Saturday July 15.
After eight races, Turbush, who was born in Riverhead and resides in Hampton Bays, is currently tied for first place in the SPT standings with Westbury's Bobby Gardner. Each driver has 356 points. Turbush, a three-time Chargers division champion who left the division after winning the title for the second straight season in 2005, currently competes in the SPT division as well as the Late Models division where he is in eighth place in the standings after seven races.
Manorville's Steve Ratti won the July 15 Chargers race, finishing slightly ahead of Riverhead's Eric Goodale. Other notable finishes from area drivers were John Ellwood, Brad Van Houten, Chris Turbush, Rob Tribuzio and Westhampton Beach's Ralph Beaver.
In the NASCAR Modifieds, J.R. Bertuccio recorded the win while East Quogue's Mike Andrews Jr. was the closest finisher among the local drivers involved. Hampton Bays driver Dan Jivanelli rounded out the top five.
Mike Mujsce Sr. of Westhampton Beach had a strong effort in that week's Figure 8 race, driving his Mike's Auto Service Ford Taurus to a sixth place finish in a race that was won by George Sprague.
