Hampton Shakespeare Festival: Not To Be
For the first time in over 10 years, The Hampton Shakespeare Festival, a non-profit organization noted for its free performances in Montauk and Southampton, will not be returning this year. Theodore Roosevelt County Park, the site in Montauk they have used as their summer base for over a decade, was not available this season due to renovations being done on the park's main building. Efforts to find housing have been unsuccessful.
Though most festival-based activities have been cancelled, including The Children's Matinee, The Playwrights Reading series, its intern program, the Meet the Artist's discussions, and Camp Shakespeare will still continue. Held in Montauk from next Monday to August 11th, the camp allows young people ages eight to 15 to explore acting, improvisation and other theatrical crafts. The weeklong program costs $375, while its one day counterpart is $40. For information, call 267-0105.
