If You Come To A Forklift in the Road . . .
Perhaps it was an enterprising five year old, happy to get his hands on the best toy ever. Or perhaps it was someone who saw a forklift in the road and took it. Whatever the case, a forklift valued at $80,000 was stolen from a parking lot on Dune Rd. in Water Mill sometime between July 15 and 18. The machine had been used to set up a tent for a party on the road. Somewhat suspiciously, $1500 worth of shrubbery was stolen from a Semaphore Rd., East Hampton residence in the same time period.
Seven grand worth of electronics equipment was stolen from The Star Room sometime between July 16 and last Friday; there was no sign of forced entry. In East Quogue, a $5000 ring was stolen from a Chestnut Ln. home; over in Westhampton a Yamaha Waverunner of undetermined value was stolen from Apautuck Pt. sometime between July 9 and 11.
A wallet with $1000 in cash was stolen from a room at the Royal Atlantic motel in Montauk on Saturday. An $800 set of golf clubs and their $250 leather carrier were stolen from a Fresh Pond Rd. residence in Amagansett on July 17. Someone looking for a close shave stole $1500 worth of barber's tools, a $500 pair of glasses and $800 worth of CDs from a car on Flamingo Ln. in Montauk on July 17. Also in Montauk, a $500 disabled Honda Scooter was stolen from its Montauk Hwy. parking space on July 16.
Boozing and Drugging
An East Hampton woman was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh on July 16 after police responded to a report of her having a panic attack at her house. No word on what type of substance was involved. A 24 year old Sound Beach man was arrested near the Boardy Barn on CPCS7 charges on Sunday after cops spotted him with a baggie of cocaine. Oops.
Southampton cops pulled in eight drunk drivers last week, three on Sunday, and one each on Saturday, last Friday, last Wednesday and July 18. Among them was a 33 year old Sag Harbor man who attempted to flee on foot after jumping the curb in his car near Mitchell Lane in Bridgehampton on Sunday. Not surprisingly, the pursuing P.O. proved to be more fleet of foot. On July 18, a 33 year old Hampton Bays man racked up DWI and driving while impaired with drugs charges after he ran his car into a large boulder in the parking lot of Ponquogue Beach in the hamlet by the bay. East Hampton Village and Town coppers report four DWI collars this week, one on July 18 and one each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Rounding Up The Usual Suspects:
• ICE-d: A 43 year old East Hampton resident was arrested by the EHTPD last Wednesday on an active Immigration and Customs Enforcement warrant. The East Hampton police profess ignorance as to why the man was arrested. Fellas, whatever happened to improved inter-agency communication?
• Harasser Arrested: A 27 year old East Hampton man was arrested on criminal contempt and harassment charges last Thursday after he pushed and threatened his ex-girlfriend when he came to the victim's house to drop their daughter off. The perp violated an order of protection.
• BB Gun Attack: An East Hampton man was shot several times with a BB gun when he was walking down Miller Lane on July 16 by the occupants of a red Honda accord. The guilty parties face assault and reckless endangerment charges.
