Learn to Sing at Bay Street Theatre
The Bay Street Theatre will hold a week-long singing workshop for young people entitled "The Joy of Singing" from August 14-18 at Pierson High School. Under the direction of Broadway veteran Anne Runolfsson, students will learn a variety of show tunes from musicals such as Wicked, Rent, Oklahoma and Phantom of the Opera (to name a few). Great American songs by Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, James Taylor and Joni Mitchell are part of the class's repertoire as well.
The workshop is founded on the idea that singing is as natural and important as speaking. Students will work closely with Runolfsson, who teaches private voice lessons in Manhattan and Los Angeles. She has starred in numerous Broadway plays and performs as a soloist with The National Symphony, among other venerable orchestras.
The class will meet Monday through Friday. Students ages seven to 12 will comprise the elementary group, which will convene from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. This group has a $175 fee including materials. The High School group, for students ages 13-18, will meet from 4:30 to 6 p.m., with a fee of $265 including materials. Call the Bay Street Theatre Education Department to register at 725-0818.
