Turn Of The Century Exhibit At Clinton Academy

The East Hampton Historical Society is traveling back in time this summer to discover what local style was just after the 18th century turned into the 19th century.

Gathering together a large collection of decorative arts, the Clinton Academy Museum will exhibit items used and made on the East End from about 1785 to 1835. Highlighting the brilliant careers of the Dominy family in the clockmaking and windmill furniture design businesses, there will be over two dozen examples of the creations of this extraordinary family. The Hedges, two brothers, also produced beautiful coin silver for East Hampton families.

This exhibition will include ceramics, embroideries and other objects that decorated the shingle-sided homes of the citizens of East Hampton's past.

This exhibit will be held at the historic Clinton Academy, 151 Main Street, East Hampton through October 8. Museum hours are Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 12 to 5 p.m., or by appointment. Call 324-6850 with further questions.
