Digital Mammography System

Southampton Hospital's Breast Health Center recently installed a new full-field digital mammography system that gives its physicians the latest tools to detect and diagnose breast cancer. "This innovative digital system puts Southampton in the top eight percent of hospitals nationwide in diagnostic capabilities," said Michael Teglasi, the director of radiology at the hospital. The system helps provide comprehensive mammography patient care — from screening and diagnosis to interventional procedures.

Geriatric Education Center

Through an alliance between Stony Brook University and Eastern Long Island Hospital, a new education program has formed that aims to expand the training of healthcare professionals serving Eastern Long Island's growing aging population. The program, in conjunction with Stony Brook's Long Island Geriatric Education Center, will be led by Dr. Jay P. Slotkin, a local geriatrician on the staff of ELIH, and Karen McLaughlin, Director of the Southold Town Human Resources Center.

The first of several joint continuing medical education sessions was held on June 14; cancer screening options for older women, the older driver, and fall prevention were discussed. For information about upcoming conferences, call Leslie Sinnott, ELIH, 477-5124.

Publicity For The Islanders

Blumenfeld + Fleming, a boutique advertising agency in Montauk, has signed the New York Islanders and will handle print, radio, television and projects for the team. As part of the campaign, ads stating "Long Island: Surrounded By Water, United By Ice" and "There Are Two Seasons on Long Island: Beach Season And Islander Season" have been running in area publications. Blumenfeld + Fleming was founded in 2002 by Lynn Blumenfeld and Jill Fleming, who worked on Madison Ave. before moving to the Hamptons.

Survey To Assess Healthcare Needs

The East Hampton Healthcare Foundation has launched a new effort to seek input from the East Hampton community about current and future healthcare needs. The new community-wide health needs assessment project seeks to improve the overall health and well-being of East Hampton by utilizing their responses and feedback to develop community priorities and to guide the development of future foundation projects. WHB Antiques Show

The Westhampton Beach Historical Society's Annual Antique show will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Westhampton Beach Middle School at Mill Road. There will be a wide variety of antique furniture for home and garden, decorative accessories, glassware, country furniture, lamps, paintings and more.
