Bust Suspected Bays Burglar
Cops say he took an interesting mix of items – 300 pairs of pants, an outboard motor and a washer/dryer among them — in the commission of three thefts. Last week Southampton Town detectives charged Thomas Halek, 35, of Hampton Bays with felony counts of burglary and criminal possession of stolen property.
An investigation commenced in April after a burglary at a residence on Inlet Road in Shinnecock Hills. Taken were a washer and dryer and other appliances totting up to in excess of $1000 in booty. In early May, a storage facility on West Main Street on Hampton Bays was burgled to the tune of 300 pairs of pants valued at $7500 in total. Also under investigation was the mid-April theft of an outboard motor from a Dune Road, Hampton Bays property.
According to Det. Sgt. Randy Hintze, police have had prior interactions with Halek. Arraigned last Thursday, he was remanded to Suffolk County jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. The investigation continues and more charges may be filed.
