Last Tuesday, Southampton Town Police rushed to the scene of an accident on County Road 39 near St. Andrews Rd. in Southampton. There, a 1995 BMW operated by a Southampton women headed east sideswiped a guardrail. Problems escalated when the woman crossed the roadway and hit a Ford van head on. Both drivers sustained injuries. The Southampton woman was airlifted to Stony Brook hospital, where she was charged with driving while intoxicated. The man in the van was taken to Southampton hospital. Police say he was also driving under the influence; he was additionally charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle. CR 39 was closed for approximately two hours while the police investigated. Cops are still looking into the accident.
