Clippers Lose Tough One To Babylon
Despite a valiant comeback effort, the Southold/Greenport baseball team lost to Babylon 11-10 in the Suffolk Class B semifinal last Wednesday at Babylon High School. The Panthers (16-5 overall) used a four-run fourth inning highlighted by a three-run homer off the bat of Chris Murray (4-for-4), who drove in a Suffolk County-high seven runs in Babylon's victory. The Clippers fell behind 9-2 after four innings.
Hampton Bays baseball saw its season come to an end on May 23 after the Baymen lost to Southold/Greenport 6-1 at Hampton Bays High School in the Suffolk County Class B out-bracket game.
Senior catcher Doug Conklin provided all of the offense that the Clippers (13-9 overall) would need by delivering a bases-loaded double with one out in the top of the third inning off Hampton Bays starter Charlie Miller that scored three runs for Southold/Greenport.
Clippers starting pitcher David Kubiak would do the rest, shutting the door on the Baymen's offense for seven innings, allowing no earned runs and only five hits while striking out five to record the win.
