"Nick Event" To Honor Young Man
For the second year in a row, the "Nick Event," a benefit for the Nick Venturella Scholarship Fund, will be held in honor of a 16-year-old boy who was killed in an auto accident on May 30, 2004.
On Sunday, the event will begin with an all-day softball tournament at the North Sea Fire Department softball field in Southampton. The Southampton High School Varsity teams, Southampton High School alumni, Fellingham's Restaurant teams, and The North Sea Fire Department team will be playing. Hot dogs and sodas will be available for purchase on the field.
A classic home-run derby contest will follow, and the winner will receive a trophy and have his or her name engraved onto a plaque to hang at Fellingham's Restaurant. Each year, winners will receive a new trophy and their names will be added to the plaque.
Later that evening, a main fundraiser will be held under a tent on the North Sea Community House Field from 6-10 p.m. The Clamman will cater the event with musical entertainment by Terry Winchell & Friends and Vivian and the Merry Makers. There will also be a silent auction, a Chinese auction, and a 50/50 raffle drawing.
The event will raise money for the Nick Venturella Scholarship, which will go to this year's outstanding boys baseball player and girls softball player from Southampton High School.
Tickets are $45 each and can be purchased at Southampton High School, the Southampton Chamber of Commerce, Fellingham's Restaurant, and the Clamman.
Nick Venturella was the pitcher for the Southampton High School Baseball team. He was also a North Sea Fire Department Junior.
