Mission: Impossible 3 was a disappointment. It is hard to take Tom Cruise seriously as an actor anymore with all his off-screen antics, and the excellent Phillip Seymour Hoffman doesn't have enough of a part. It is an adventure action film with a wife hostage theme.
The film doesn't come close to one of the best wife/hostage movies I have seen, an old one (1985) with Gene Hackman called Target. Try to see that one if you haven't caught a replay on TV. The script is great, twists and turns all the time. Hackman turns in a typical fine Hackman performance, and Matt Dillon — who I think was robbed this year in the Academy Awards, not winning for Crash — is excellent as his son. See Target, forget Mission: Impossible 3.
Granny pick: Crash if somehow you missed it.
