Kudos & A Complaint

Merchants along North Main Street in East Hampton reacted this week to the intermunicipal road improvement and beautification project currently underway. The county has undertaken major work, including upgrading drainage structures. The Town and Village of East Hampton are tasked with beautification efforts, such as installing new streetlights.

While he agreed the neighborhood will look pretty once the project is complete, and praised the effort to date, John Calvo, owner of East Hampton Pharmacy, complained this week that the redesign of the roadway has resulted in the loss of much-needed parking. A total of six spaces along the section of the road where his store is located have been sacrificed to wider sidewalks and driveways and larger spots for handicapped drivers.
